ABSTRACT
This article focuses on concept of Remote Inventory Management, also known as the Vendor Managed Inventory, which is being used in supply chain management. This is a concept in which it is the supplier, not the end-user, who has the responsibility for deciding when inventory levels needs to be replenished. This is done using intelligent monitoring equipment mounted locally to the storage takes or silos on site at the end-user facility. The central control point provides a computer service that operates a process management monitoring software package that regularly logs information remotely, from the storage vessels through the outstations. The benefits of the system to both end-users and suppliers were discussed in this article. Some of the factors which should be considered by the supplier and end-user before deciding on the type of system required are Internet access, call costs, system security, communication protocols, support, installation reliability, and diagnostics.
