ABSTRACT
This article discusses how the Institute of Logistics and Transport can capitalize upon its new breadth and strength, in connection with the renewed public interest in issues concerning transportation and logistics in Great Britain. The most obvious matter is the profile that the institute will take in the public debate. The appointment of a new director of polices is imminent and the author of this article believes that he or she should spearhead much increased support and profile for the policy committee, the special interest groups and branches in this area. Less obvious, but in the author's view could be important in the long term, is the contribution that the institute can make to handling these strategic issues, both nationally and internationally.
