ABSTRACT
This article reports that during an extraordinary meeting, the largest air members of the British International Freight Association (BIFA) endorsed a letter sent to Her Majesty's Customs and Excise on their behalf, rejecting the New Export System (NES) as currently proposed. The letter contains a recommendation for the central funds contributed by forwarders to the air community network system should not be used to facilitate the NES at present. The air division members of the BIFA made it clear that they are unhappy about the software costs of changes to electronic systems. Major concern was also shown over increased staffing costs required to operate the system. Other worries about the new system suggested that the NES would lengthen the export operation process by as much as 50 percent, bringing forward the close-out time for the acceptance of consignments.
