ABSTRACT
This article reports that the Associated British Ports (ABP), the largest ports operator in Great Britain, has announced that the ABP Connect, its supply chain and value-added services division, has taken over the operation and management of the rail freight terminal in Birmingham, England. The company division was selected to operate the facility, following the receipt of several bids. The facility is within the strategically located 400-acre Hams Hall Distribution site. According to Bo Lerenius, group chief executive of the Associated British Ports Plc, the focus of their strategy at ABP, which owns and operates 21 ports around the country, is on growing the ports' business through securing customer contracts. The ABP will focus on port-related domestic and channel tunnel traffics, working actively with customers and other stakeholders to promote the advantages of the movement of goods by rail.
