ABSTRACT
This article reports that prospects for the sale of new commercial vehicles, beyond June 2002, are encouraging. According to a report published by the Glass company's information services, overall registrations jumped by over 21 percent in February 2002 alone, with those for lightweights, car-derived vans and larger panel vehicles moving ahead by more than 30 percent. However, the performers of the entire commercial vehicle market were pick-up trucks, the sales of which rose by 111 percent. As predicted by most experts, heavy trucks are faring less well and the sale of tractor units in February were down by 22 percent. According to George Alexander, the company's chief commercial vehicle editor, a ten percent fall in tractor unit sales by the end of the year would accurately reflect the harsh economic realities currently facing the haulage industry.
