ABSTRACT
This article reports that the Port of Tyne Authority in England has awarded warehouse management specialist ATMS the contract to install a stock control system that will help to track the increasing quantities of palletized cargo being handled at the port. Since the introduction of the port's new supply chain management package, cargo volumes have increased with over 1.5 million tons of cargo handled in 2001. The ATMS-developed system has been specifically tailored to meet the port's requirements. It will take full control of every pallet stored and will eventually process full management data of all work carried out the port's five hectares of warehousing. The system is also radio-linked to allow operators to carry out their work while keeping a constant contact with the administration office.
