ABSTRACT
This article reports that the four-year doctorate program in transport knowledge and systems engineering which is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and offered by the University of Southhampton, faculty of engineering and applied sciences, includes industry-sponsored research in several areas. These are traffic/safety information and management, design and systems integration, environmental impact, public transport, vehicle technologies, knowledge and systems engineering, and integrated transport infrastructure. Over 40 companies have committed to support this scheme. Ten EPSRC scholarships are available each year, beginning in October 2000, for well qualified candidates in Great Britain and member states of the European Union. The normal qualification for admissions is a good honors degree, although other qualifications may be accepted.
