ABSTRACT
This article focuses on the survey conducted by the periodical 'WebShopper,' into the Great Britain online shopping produced by the consulting firm Management Horizons in association with the Taylor Nelson Sofres company. The survey confirms that more than one-in-five online consumers in Great Britain purchased through transactional Web sites over the November 1999 to January 2000 period, generating 604 million pounds of consumer spending during that period. Personal computer goods lead the way, with almost 20 percent of consumer spending in this sector online. Books and music are also significant online markets, and are achieving a level of penetration and a growth rate which is already having an effect on store-based retail formats.
