This article reports that orders and inquiries for new fork lift trucks are at their highest, in Great Britain, since 1998. A recent quarterly trend survey, published in 2000, conducted by the Fork Truck Association (FTA) shows 47 percent of its members experiencing increased truck orders and 38 percent reporting that inquiries for new trucks have improved. Used truck inquiries are stable, with only 16 percent of members reporting a decline, down 30 percent in the last quarter of 1999. However 66 percent of members report an increase in used truck orders, up from 47 percent, a figure regarded by the FTA as 'exceptionally high.' Casual hire is also going very well, with 8 percent of members reporting an increase in both inquiries and orders, and only ten percent reporting a decline. Nine-out-of-ten FTA members report that the demand for services is either stable or showing an improvement.
