This article is based on the study conducted by the author, when he could not get guidance on logical approach in student-instructor approach pattern, to identify and understand patterns of teaching so that he could plan his time in advance for needs of students who seek appointments outside the class. This report is meant to suggest the kind of approach an instructor might use to determine student contact needs, and to raise some questions about measuring the effectiveness of various teaching modes that might be used to give students feedback on their progress. This methodology can be a useful in determining contact patterns and student characteristics associated with those patterns for the particular group of students any instructor may have. In lieu of more sophisticated statistical techniques, the study indicates that instructors can expect increased contact time to be sought by females.
