ABSTRACT
It has been reported that recent events in the rail industry, that occurred in 2001, have created many situations for the Institute of Logistics and Transport to speak out on issues it is concerned by. In November 2001, the Strategic Rail Working Party of the institute reported on the institute's response to the Health and Safety Executive's Railway Health and Safety Regulatory Strategy, a document which provoked quite a reaction in both trade-related and wider media circles. The working party also responded to the House of Commons inquiry on the Passenger Rail Franchising and the Greater London Assembly's Tube inquiry. The working party is also embarking on a much more substantial report outlining its views and suggestions, on what the government of Great Britain should do following on from its decision to the Railtrack into administration.
