ABSTRACT
This letter to the editor commented on the article concerning the criticisms made by the Freight Transport Association (FTA) against the Strategic Rail Authority (SRA) of Great Britain, which was published in the October 2001 edition of the periodical 'Logistics and Transport.' The FTA has mentioned, specifically, the issue of track access charges, expressing concern that this matter was not addressed in the Freight Strategy of the SRA which was published in May 2001. According to the author of this letter, the SRA Freight Team has quietly devoted a great deal of time to this matter, in negotiation with the Office of the Rail Regulator and others. The article concludes by mentioning five major obstacles preventing rail freight growth. The primary activity of the Freight Team of the SRA has always been to identify barriers to growth and to determine the measures required to remove them. The author hopes that the FTA, as representatives of a significant part of industry including both users and providers of rail freight services, will work constructively with the SRA in creating the right environment for rail freight growth in the future.
