ABSTRACT
This article focuses on the speech delivered by Richard J. Hunt, president of the Institute of Logistics and Transport, during a conference which dealt with the transportation-related priorities of the Labor Party, under the leadership of Great Britain Prime Minister Tony Blair. Although the ten-year transport plan is the best opportunity offered to this generation, Richard J. Hunt believes that delivery will depend on the human resource available and the ability to achieve the desired outcomes. He went on to explain how transport is inextricably linked with business and global economy. Turning to the speeding up of the planning process, which had been a key theme for the whole conference, he stressed the importance of improving the pace and flexibility of the planning system. Concluding, he challenged the audience that there is never a better time to be involved in the transport industry.
