ABSTRACT
This article reports that the supply solutions specialist TDG Ltd. and the railfreight operator EWS have commenced an operation that will open up central Scotland to significantly expanded railfreight capacity. The railfreight services of the EWS have been extended from Mossend in the west of Scotland to the intermodal terminal of the TDG company in Grangemouth with the immediate introduction of a daily rail freight service between the two sites. The extension of the service to Grangemouth is expected to remove 3,000 vehicle movements from the central Scotland road network over the course of the year, saving in excess of 150,000 vehicle miles. The intermodal facility will support the supply chain management requirements of customers using the service. Added-value services include box-cleaning and relining, decanting and debagging, discharge from boxes and container inspection. Container storage, warehousing capacity and a vehicle fleet for collection and deliveries are available on-site.
