ABSTRACT
Russell Cramb, Neil Howie and James McQuillan, three Scottish Borders Council employees, were the first recipients of the Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) Traffic Management and Systems Engineering at Level four in Scotland. They embarked on the Level four qualification during 2000 as part of a pilot program being run at the council in partnership with the BC Business Consultants, the commercial division of the Borders College. This SVQ forms part of the Transportation Suite of qualifications in the construction sector. These are awarded jointly by the Scottish Qualifications Authority and the Transportation Vocational Group, and include transport planing, road safety, and highways maintenance. The SVQ Level four in traffic management and systems management is made up of eight units such as development and test project design options and comply with statutory requirements.
