ABSTRACT
This article presents highlights of the third Real-Time Passenger Information Systems conference which was held in the spring of 2002 in London, England. Delivering project management success was the key theme at this year's event. Attended by over 100 senior professionals from the passenger transport information sector, several issues were covered over the two-day program. The issues are developments in the key data transmission technologies, standardization and the Transport Direct Initiative, practical ways to generate revenue from passenger information systems, how to gain internal operational benefits from real-time systems, and identifying the market for short messaging systems service. Real practical solutions for the travel information needs of the future was the theme which was continued into the second day of the conference. The two-day event proved to be a valuable insight into what the future may bring the passenger transport industry.
