ABSTRACT
This article presents results of the third quarter report for 2001 on the total number of goods vehicles travelling to mainland Europe from Great Britain which was published by the Department of Transport, Local Government and the Regions of Great Britain. The figures presented are on a seasonally adjusted basis to help identify underlying trends, especially changes between successive quarters. The total number of vehicles travelling to mainland Europe rose by 15,700 from 585,500 in the second quarter of 2001 to 601,200 in the third quarter of 2001. There was a two percent increase in the number of powered vehicles while the number of unaccompanied trailers crossing to Europe rose by three percent, from the second quarter of 2001. The figures show that foreign registered powered vehicles accounted for 49 percent of all vehicles travelling to Europe, the same as in the previous quarter.
