ABSTRACT
The Institute of Logistics and Transport (ILT) perceives that there are training needs in the logistics and transport sectors not currently being catered for. It has started the first step of a qualification designed to address these. The first stage of a new certificate, launched in January 2001, addressed a need previously met by the Foundation in Logistics, which will be phased out over the next two years. The new ILT introductory certificate is designed to be flexible and to include practical skills as well as knowledge. The certificate is structured in the introductory, technical certificate, and higher certificate phases. The aim of the institute in designing the course were discussed, along with the components of the introductory certificate. Entry is flexible to meet the needs of the different types of candidate.
