ABSTRACT
It was during the first meeting of the Logistics Directors' Forum for 2001 that Jeremy Hollows, director of information and systems for the Carrefour SA, discussed the potential offered by electronic procurement and how electronic marketplaces are driving this. He looked at role of business-to-business exchanges in enhancing global supply chain capabilities. He went on to outline the four essentials to meeting participants' needs. These are communication, connection, synchronize and collaboration. The Carrefour SA is totally committed to the exchange concept for procurement and is a key player in the Global-netxchange, a neutral electronic marketplace which is open to all retailers, wholesalers and suppliers globally, to facilitate communication, connection and collaboration. Jeremy Holows also played an active part in the break-out sessions, circulating among the three groups, answering questions and contributing to the continuing debate regarding the issue.
