ABSTRACT
Reports that Impala, the industry organization which represents independent record companies and publishers in Belgium, has disapproved the BMG/Sony merger and the EMI/Warner merger, claiming they will damage competition in the music market, reduce consumer choice and impact cultural diversity. Impala's belief that European Union competition regulators will block the merger moves, just as they did in 2002 when EMI and Warner attempted to merge.
