ABSTRACT
The process by which the British-based Institute of Logistics and Transport frame policy and exercise influence on the government is explained. The Transport and Logistics Policy Committee has the job of identifying subjects on which an ILT input would be of value. As the ILT defines it, policy relates essentially to the part played by public authorities as opposed to private concerns. In the area of transport, government at both national and local level is deeply involved in setting the ground rules. Ways by which the ILT can increase its influence on policy matters are discussed.
