ABSTRACT
British railway maintenance company Amey Rail has signed a 20 million pound contract with Exel Logistics in an effort to meet increasing pressure from the British government for railway operators to improve rail performance and the country's existing rail network. This is believed to be the first time that a railway maintenance company has put stock control procurement and distribution into the hands of outside specialists. Exel Logistics will manage and distribute all materials used by Amey Rail Maintenance teams and will take responsibility for 4,000 different products. The operation will be based at a central store in Plymouth, England.
