ABSTRACT
According to an independent survey, the profitability of the British automotive industry is suffering at the hands of some of its computer suppliers, costing firms more than 167 million pounds and leaving them with systems that remain faulty for up to a year. Despite nearly 95% of firms in the automotive sector buying new systems designed specifically for the industry, only 45% had suppliers that responded positively when problems became apparent. In addition to the physical and man-hour costs, 85% of firms saw their businesses suffer. Customers suffered in 41% of cases over a third of the businesses had to pay staff overtime to overcome the problem systems.
