ABSTRACT
An installment of 2.4 billion pounds in cash for the British transport sector has been delivered. The money is earmarked for plans to improve public transport and combat traffic congestion and pollution. As part of a total 754.9 million-pound Local Transport Settlement for 2000 to 201, the British government has accepted 21 major public transport and road schemes. This settlement is the second year of the three-year package worth 2.4 billion pounds provided in the Comprehensive Spending Review. Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott has set out his 10-year plan for transport, a long-term vision for improvements and the large-scale investment necessary to achieve these plans.
