A report from Hitachi Data Systems Corp. revealed how much reliance companies place on their stored data, how voluminous it all is and how managers are chasing the goals of better management and consolidation. The study showed that 63% of management services types believe storage consolidation would deliver significant yearly savings. It seems that 80% of the total storage budget is spent on storage hardware and its management. Most companies polled predict an increase in storage requirements in 2004.
