British-based Institute of Management Services's (IMS) distance learning program in Colombo, Sri Lanka has been running since early 2001. The course is a two-year program comprising eight modules designed for tutor-supported distance learning, organized and run by the institute's Sri Lanka branch. Groundbreaking efforts to establish support tutors, a delivery system and an equitable fee structure were undertaken and a non-profit service provision was agreed upon. The resulting course was approved by the IMS Education Committee during the autumn of 2000. In the spring of 2001 six students concluded the first module. In 2003 the first diplomas are expected to be handed out to successful students.
