This article reports on the death of Ray Colegate, a fellow of the British Institute of Logistics and Support. Colegate joined the Board of Trade in 1949, the Central Statistical Office in 1952, to the Treasury in 1957 and the EFTA Secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland and Brussels, Belgium. He proposed the integration of all aspects of civil aviation regulation during his stint as secretary to the Edwards Committee. His significant achievement was his creation of the Civil Aviation Authority, established in the 1970's as a member of the Board for Economic Regulation, from 1974 to his retirement in 1990. His removal of the protection enveloping the flag carrier airlines from competition greatly affected air travel and logistics.
