ABSTRACT
This article reports on the intermodal rail freight system development project in Great Britain. The project brings together British rail managers and Finnish computer technology firms Aplicon, Isotrak and Amec. The intermodal system, which is undergoing trials at Hereford, and to the east of Birmingham, uses trains that are fast as the existing passenger train network, some 80 kilometers per hour, with inherent flexibility. The system offers in-vehicle Windows application.
