ABSTRACT
Public internet trading exchanges suggest that all retail buying will go virtual within several years. The first exchange, launched in 2001, is described as a growing community of international retailers and manufacturers who wish to enhance the Collaboration, Planning, Forecasting and Replenishment project (CPFR). CPFR us a U.S. Voluntary Inter-industry Committee on Commerce standards. It aims to bring retailers and consumer goods manufacturers together to agree on processes and technologies. CER, the forerunner of CPFR, claims that forecasting, replenishment and promotions can be improved if various parties are prepared to collaborate.
