ABSTRACT
Government funding of over 12 million pounds towards for the capital cost of setting up a daily ferry service between Scotland, Rosyth, Belgium and Zeebrugge has been agreed in principle by British Secretary of State for Transport, Local Government and the Regions Stephen Byers. The service will enable freight to be transported directly between ports. Subject to state aid clearance from the European Commission which is to be sought as a matter of urgency, the money will be made available to Forth Ports PLC. The money will be available as a Freight Facilities Grant which would assist with the cost of constructing a roll-on and roll-off terminal at Rosyth.
