ABSTRACT
A three-year research and development project, valued at 900,000 pounds is developed to investigate barriers to collaborative working in the construction industry. The research project will be based at the Open University Business School and the Reading Construction Forum (RFC). The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and Department of Trade and Industry are contributing more than 300,000 pounds to the research project, which starts in April 2002. The project will examine and find ways to tackle the commercial challenges left unresolved by the earlier initiative known as Building Down Barriers. The experimental public sector project created two collaborative supply-chains each of which are designed and built as a sports facility for the Ministry of Defense.
