ABSTRACT
Based on research in the automotive and grocery industries, the authors contend that there is a need to improve synchronization of the value chain or the high level of customer fulfillment required by Web shopping. The realistic goal to aim towards is near perfect customer fulfillment. It is necessary to remove stock and create real flow of information and products down the value stream. As this step is implemented, there will be new opportunities to reconfigure the existing assets to allow the creation of integrated logistics serving the whole value stream.
