ABSTRACT
Having inventory in the supply-chain can be more valuable than having the equivalent in cash. Inventory reduction can be strategic or operational. The complexities of effective inventory management across multiple organizations within a supply-chain are much greater than for internal customers and suppliers. With the current pressure on organizations to compete within extended enterprises, the need to collaborate with partners to form a seamless process is crucial. The basics such as inventory accuracy must be in place before the data can be utilized and made visible to other partners. Partners can then work together smarter and meet the marketplace demands. With a synthesized supply-chain in place with all partners in a state of continuous improvement, the journey towards achieving 'Six Sigma' service levels can truly commence.
