ABSTRACT
The Hoyer Shuttle train project set to operate between Brunsbuttel and Hamburg-Billwerder in Germany proved to be economically and environmentally efficient in the delivery of goods following a pilot test. The project was conceived by the carrier, Hoyer GmbH and its customer, Bayer Corp. aiming to transfer traffic from road to rail and reduce environmental pollution and safety levels. Hoyer GmbH contract private rail company, Rhein-Sieg-Eisenbahngesellschaft to provide the locomotive, shunter and the fleet of rail cars and engineer drivers. The shuttle runs on a scheduled basis and is concluded to be efficient unaffected by traffic congestion and weather factors.
