ABSTRACT
A continual process of change management lies at the heart of successful organizational strategy. The effective leader acts much like a ship's captain, sometimes changing, and sometimes adapting to change; sometimes reining in a too-keen organization, and sometimes dragging laggards kicking and screaming into a new era. General managers who get the results that cause the leader's vision to become reality are in turn skillful at managing the conversation between those who lead the change effort and those who are expected to implement the changes. In this article we discuss the role of the corporate intranet as a tool for the communication of change and collaboration in organizations. After establishing the boundaries of the intranet, we briefly illustrate its potential for success by showing its impact in a number of well-known companies. Then we briefly summarize the development process of an instrument for the measurement of intranet effectiveness in organizations, and provide a simple checklist for managers to use in their evaluation of their intranet's success.
