ABSTRACT
Courier company United Parcel Service of America Inc. has invested £18m in a suite of delivery-flow software technologies, which it claims will cut the training time for its workers from several months to weeks. Key to the new system is a scannable "smart label" attached to each package, so employees no longer have to learn hundreds of addresses or postcodes for each delivery area to load trucks. With the new software, training time is slashed as packages arrive with specific instructions for drivers about where to place them in the vehicle.
