ABSTRACT
AMIR KHAN has finally landed his super-fight in America, a clash with Canelo Alvarez for the world middleweight championship. After being snubbed three times by Floyd Mayweather and also by Manny Pacquiao, Khan will meet Alvarez in Las Vegas on May 7. The WBC, Ring Magazine and lineal titles will be on the line with tens of thousands of Mexicans in town to back champion Alvarez, who has succeeded Julio Cesar Chavez Snr as their country's favourite. The news sinks Kell Brook's hopes of a world welterweight title fight with Khan at Wembley on June 4. That may be switched to the autumn. Khan's shot at the classic middleweight crown will become a reality thanks to Alvarez insisting on a 155lb catchweight limit for his title defences. The fight will be screened live on the HBO network. JEFF POWELL'S VERDICT: www.dailymail.co.uk/sport
