ABSTRACT
The assignment to change the offers and the internal structure of the Music and Dance Department of the Central Library (Bücherhallen Hamburg, Germany) led to a multitude of innovations within the team, the internal organisation, the budget and the cultural and musical program work during the last three years. 1.5 posts as librarians have been converted to the equivalent of posts as music teachers. This enabled the department to offer professional cultural program work with the purpose to convey music to its customers in an active and lively way. The internal reorganisation is being accompanied by a spatial reorientation. Besides the media, there will be a small stage with technical equipment for light and sound, iPads with music apps, workspaces with audio-software and a room dedicated for workshops. Most of the new furniture has been chosen for its variability and multi-usability. The Music and Dance Department is the dedicated field for experimentation with new formats.
