ABSTRACT
For a country's economy and for international trade, the importance of transport is vital. Therefore, there are numerous regulations governed by public or private law in this field belonging to the domestic law of the international community States or to international law. These regulations refer to either the subject of transport (distinguish between transport of people and transport of goods or the modes of transport (under this aspect, transport can be by road, rail, air, sea, river, etc. or the itinerary covered within or beyond the borders of one state (transport in internal traffic and transport in international traffic. Some of the rules are general, but most have special character. The new Romanian Civil Code which entered into force on 1 October 2011 made a general regulation for the contract of carriage, the Romanian legislator having as landmark the international agreements related to transport and special regulations for different types of contracts of carriage in the Romanian law. Not every solution the legislator has chosen are infallible, but the good intentions cannot be disputed.
