ABSTRACT
This special issue comprises of a subset of papers first presented at a conference on the impact of globalization on urban development at Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio, Italy, on August 2002. The conference was supported by travel funds and payments in-kind from the Rockefeller Foundation. All papers have been through the high double-blind peer review standards of the periodical "Annals of Regional Science." It was not possible because of space constraints to include all of the papers that successfully met those standards, so the editorial section opted for a geographical spread approach. Many of the papers deal with globalization consequences in developing countries, either national spatial or city-specific. The editorial section tried to include a paper from each region of the world, including under-researched areas such as Russia and South Africa.
