Canon's CCD based flatbed scanner is an entry-level device aimed at the small office workgroup. The article evaluates the CanoScan 9900F and 3000F desktop flatbed scanner from Canon. With features such as automatic color balance, the 3000F ensures that clear, high quality scans are always achieved. The model also has a fast multi-photo mode for automatic identification, cropping and straightening of successive images. It also has the Quality Automatic Retouching and Enhancement technology that finds and eliminates dust and scratch marks from original prints, saving retouching time and improving the quality of the scans. To hasten along the job of converting perhaps large libraries of film records the 3000F has three one-touch buttons for film or print scanning. For scanning more bulky originals, the 3000F has Z-lid that lifts over the thickness of such things and allows them to be flat scan with little resistance of distortion due to curvature. There are one-touch buttons for copy, scan to email or multi scan operations. By introducing technology such as FARE level 2, Canon effectively builds a bridge between professional technology and the general office user. The device can scan up to 24 frames of 35 millimeter film in a single scan and has a new optical system ensuring that the highest quality reproduction of any original.
