Developing the Internal HR Consultant's Role

This paper focuses on the seminar which was held at the Roffey Park Institute in November 2002. This one day seminar was attended by a wide range of delegates from both the public and private sectors. The seminar offered the opportunity to share experiences and glean useful tips on how others were handling the current human resource (HR) model of service centers supported by internal Human Resources consultants. The main challenges for individuals within HR in making the shift to a consultant role are role definition, obtaining senior level support to the change in role, trust-in the ability of the internal consultant to remain objective and politics-ensuring the consultant is not used as a pawn in the political maneuverings of others.
