ABSTRACT
Telecommunication equipment maker Lucent Technologies Inc. is to establish a programme to train the employees of the Iraqi Telephone and Post Company. The move follows Lucent winning a £15.5m subcontract from Bechtel to reconstruct Iraq's communications following the war. As well as rebuilding the network, Lucent will train Iraqi personnel to take over running it. The skills programmes will centre on ensuring a successful implementation of the network and its future management, although no date has been set for the Iraqis to take it over.
