As part of a programme of 900 job losses, Norwich Union (NU) has cut its distance-learning team by a third, including head of training Richard McGreevy. Patrick Snowball, group executive director of NU's parent company Aviva, comments: "These changes are necessary to adapt to changing market conditions and make our business fit for the future." Company spokesperson Lucy Haughey adds: "We have to continually look at ways of achieving greater efficiency and effectiveness across all areas of our business." So the review that resulted in these job losses looked at processes, ways of working, and the organisational structure of the general insurance business, in order to centralise some activities and remove duplication.
