The article discusses challenges related to the recruitment of chief financial officers (CFO). More and more companies are interested in outside chief financial officers as directors, often for audit committees. The author notes that landing them can be hard and board service often requires new skills from chief financial officers themselves. A group of senior financial executives from large organizations in the public and private sector discussed in a roundtable setting the evolving role of the chief financial officer and the pressures on the finance function. The author notes that filing the CFO position is becoming increasingly difficult to fill due to the increased responsibility placed on finance executives under the Sarbanes-Oxely Act.
