JOE ROOT extended his prolific year of run-making to keep England competitive on day two of the second Test against Pakistan in Dubai yesterday. Root and Alastair Cook shared a century stand, and Root then stayed put for an unbeaten 76 out of 182 for three when bad light brought an early close.
