ABSTRACT
A foresight study was conducted by the INRS on physical assistance robots (PAR) which are machines designed to help human to perform various physical tasks. This study led to four scenarios, with PAR deployments at contrasted scales and especially different modes of use: "PAR when useful", "Parophobia","Parophilia", and "Little room for the PAR". After such an exercise, it was tempting to confront these forecasts with recent news about robots development. Today there seems to be a quick deployment of PAR, whenever they have a clear added value, a positive image, and strong support from the state. This deployment will be an opportunity to step back and to anticipate the effect on health in the coming years. A paradox: The artificial intelligence is seen as a key technology for the future development of robotics but it is also the very subject which focuses a part of the questionings of the society.
