ABSTRACT
The main precept of Lean Management (LM) is to make people "work better". The case study presented in this paper showcases a French Engineering & Information Technology Service company, which ventured into implementing LM. The health, safety & working conditions committee commissioned the authors to study the impact of LM implementation on workers' health. Our initial hypothesis considered that lean management could eventually counter work performance. Interview scripts were designed to differentiate change management from lean management factors. Our case study shows that the lean implementation process reveals a dual agenda between workers and management, while the findings reveal a deterioration of workers' health after LM implementation. In conclusion, the author argues for an alternative ergonomic LM method, articulating higher work performance and health preservation.
