The article offers information on the heart valve replacement surgery of 46-year-old Carmelite Todd Lewis by Dr. Art Coffey at IU Health Methodist in Indianapolis, Indiana. Coffey knew from pre-operation scans that Lewis may need a new artery and not only a valve, but he was not sure after seeing the heart of Lewis. Coffey selected the white hard-plastic ring with two carbon flaps as the new valve of Lewis over a tissue version because it will last the rest of the life of Lewis.
