The article discusses the use of the employee management software Open Options from Crown Computing at North Wales Police (NWP). The computer software was implemented to help increase the number of police officers and improve its service to the community. It replaces the previously time consuming and error prone manual staff scheduling and processes with a centralized information technology system that ensures that police officers and specialists are consistently available when and where they are needed. By reducing the administrative burden, NWP expect of save hundreds of thousands of pounds a year. The technology will provide an efficient and accurate way of scheduling staff making sure that they spend as much time as possible working within the community. Open Options will also link directly to payroll, ensuring smooth payment and making the allocation of overtime fairer while also ensuring that NWP meet the European Time Directive. It will also help make it easier for NWP to organize and administer flexible working schemes for staff. Ruth Purdie, acting superintendent at NWP said that Open Options can interface with existing systems either local or national to provide police forces with real-time information.
